Understanding the Holy Spirit.

UNDERSTANDING THE HOLY SPIRIT AND HOW HE OPERATES.

In Christianity today, humanity and modern people have let the imaginations run wild in regard to who the Spirit is and especially in how He operates. Many misunderstanding, misconceptions and interpretations occurred both in the religious world and in the Christendom; as a result of many of the incorrect beliefs that are based on phrases found in the Bible, taken out of context of the whole scripture. He convicts the world of sin, righteousness and judgement - John 16:7-13 How is this done? By the product of His work - the Word of God Eph. 6:17 - Sword of the Spirit is the word of God II Tim. 3:16-17 - The inspired word is able to reprove the world of sin.

This article will be centred on the understanding of His Personality, how He works in the lives of believers and how He operates in the first century church.

1. The Personality Of The Holy Spirit:
He is a person that has the following personalities,  qualities or characteristics thus: He has a will, He searches out human minds, He has a will, emotion and feeling. He is Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient.

2. The Works Of The Holy Spirit:
The Holy Spirit reproves, corrects guides, leads, guards, convinces, convicts, converts, empowers or equips and protects his own people. He also produces fruit(s) in believers' lives.

3. How Does The Holy Spirit Operates In The First Century Church?
During the first century, the Spirit did directly tell some Christians were they needed to go. Acts 8:29 - The Spirit directed Philip to the eunuch Acts 10:19-20 - The Spirit got Peter and Cornelius together Acts 16:6-10 - The Spirit directed Paul to travel to Macedonia.  But even in the days of miracles, these direct messages were regarded as exceptional.

Not everyone had the miraculous gifts of the Spirit - I Cor. 12:28-30 There is no implication that every Christian’s movements were guided by the Spirit by direct revelation. So how are we led by the Spirit? Or perhaps we should ask the other side of the question, how do we follow the Spirt? Isa 48:16-18 - God leads when we follow His commandments.Gal. 5:16-25 - Walk in the Spirit.

How does the Spirit produces things like love, joy, patience, etc in our lives if not through the Word that He has given us? Surely it doesn’t take a miraculous intervention in a person’s life to follow the Spirit into these things. People who pursue spiritual things, pursue the things of the Spirit. - Rom 8:5-6. I Pet 2:22-25 - It is the Spirit’s work, the Word of God, that purifies us. The Spirit has done much for us in changing us into new creatures But too many look for some mysterious, magical method of change. The fact that God chose to accomplish this change through a plain book is too simple for them I guess.

Acts 10:44-46 - The baptism of the Spirit is referred to as the gift of the Holy Spirit. Peter said it was the same as the baptism they had received on Pentecost Every Christian did not have the baptism of the Holy Spirit . It is only recorded twice - Acts 2 and Acts 10. I Cor 12:29-31 - Not all could perform miracles.

The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Godhead. He has his personality, duties and characteristics as enumerated above.

In 1 Cor 13:8-10 say Miraculous gifts would one day end. Since the apostles have died, the means of receiving gifts of the Holy Spirit have ended. Since the apostles have died, the means of receiving gifts of the Holy Spirit have ended.

Finally, let us allow the Holy Spirit to operate in our lives. We should not grieve the Holy Spirit of God.
