The expression and submission of Apostle Paul from the above passage shows that there is earnest need to control 'self consciously'. Somebody once said, "If you want to speak to any one in this world, then start by speaking in yourself". in other words, for you to be successful, and to make impart in other people's life  then you should learn to control your own self.
Therefore, the impact of Apostle Paul's message in that passage of the scripture saying "but i discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when i have preached to others , i myself should become disqualified (cast away)" means that every individual should endeavor to be practical , that is doing what one says, in order to be an achiever or to be successful. and the only key to use to conquer self is 'self-control'.
"the only key to conquer self is 'self-control'"
There is a saying that "A life without self-control is like vehicle without brake". The ability  of Apostle Paul to control his body and bringing it to subjection was the reason for his achievement  and accomplishment in life . At the end he obtained the crown of righteousness. II Tim 4:8  The same thing can happen to you and i today, if we are determined to discipline our own 'self'.
"A life without self-control is like a vehicle without brake".
self discipline is the life of a christian may not be easy or convenient , but it will be profitable. Similar to self control, self-discipline involves subjecting our fleshly desires to God's will; and that's a lot of effort . More importantly, self discipline is the path to holiness; through it we make ourselves available for God to use us  he pleases. It's about imbibing the spirit of 'less self and more of God'.
