Get to know the truth about the Scriptures. A roadmap to New Testament Christianity.

TEXT: 1 Samuel 16:1-13

Over the centuries society has continued to value the superficial over substance. Plaudits and power still come to the beautiful people, sports stars, and media celebrities with exceptional physical characteristics. With such men and women presented as ideals and models it is easy for the rest of us to feel ugly,  unwanted, insignificant, and worthless in comparison.

In our reading, God sent Samuel to Bethlehem to anoint one of  Jesse's son as the next king of Israel. Samuel assumed the next king would be tall, handsome, and strong. But God chose the youngest son, David, a shepherd boy.

Peter remind us that should spend more of our time cultivating our character than worrying  about our appearance.  God's standards have not changed. He looks at the inside of a person - examining thoughts, intentions, desires, motives, character, attitude, and faith. Expand your energy on developing inner beauty! That's what matters to God!
